Making Herbal Remedies

Making Herbal Remedies (Herbology At Home) (Kindle Edition)
By Anke Bialas

Anke says that she considers herbology an amateur interest whereas herbalism is a professional pursuit. I was glad to hear someone else make the same differention as I do! I always consider myself an herbologist, one who studies herbs and no way would I be ready to consider myself an herbalist, if ever! But as Anke says, just because we consider herbology for amateurs does not mean it is any less effective or important! What Anke does say it represents is a continuation of an ancient tradition whereby herb lore is practiced by everyday people in everyday situations! Now that was truly speaking to me folks! Anke's aim is to help guide everyone in taking back our heritage of herbal medicine and passing it on to future generations!

The book is very well written and easy to read with clear instruction for making internal and external remedies. There are sections on infused oils, creams, first aid, children, tinctures, food as medicine and many others. Each is very helpful ready reference when you are making your own remedies at home. What I consider very useful is the fact I finally have a book in my home library that is so easy, and fast to use. Let's just say you have gathered some St. John's Wort and you can't remember right away how to infuse it in oil or fresh tincture it, just grab this book and you can immediately find the sections of the book to help! A ready reference with sound advice right at my fingertips! I am in love!

What is Arnica? Why Arnica Montana is the #1 Best-Selling Homeopathic Remedy in the World (What Is?) (Kindle Edition)
By Ruth Elston

I wish the book had been written by a practicing homeopath rather than a well informed enthusiast and that is why I only give it 4 stars. However, Ruth Elston obviously really believes in arnica and her book provides lots of valuable, easy-to-understand information. The book is clearly written and very nicely organized.
My brother has been using Arnica for his sprained ankle and he has been trying to convince me to take it before undergoing surgery on my knee.
I learned a many things from this book and have decided to give Arnica a try.
Although only giving it 4 stars I recommend the book highly for anyone wanting to know more about arnica.

By Zoe Brooks

Most aspects of this book was excellent. The characters were well-developed. By page 10, the reader is able to feel an emotional connection to thee characters which I think is very important for any book and writer.

It was even refreshing to see commas and punctuation marks in order. However, the one thing I could not get by was the fact that if you haven't read the first book, you're going to feel like you've missed out on A LOT.

While I do understand the need of a series, perhaps the author should include an introduction in this book or a recap if you will so readers who stumble on this book before the first one won't be lost.

Would I recommend this read? Sure, but they must have read Book One first.

Overall assessment:
Content: 4/5
Editing: 4/5
Formatting: 4/5
Pacing: 3.5/5
Offensive content?: Adult theme suited for ages 17 and above.

I always enjoy reading Cayce books because they are filled with his knowledge. This particular book was somewhat watered-down for advanced herbalists or those familiar with first aide. It is a great book for beginners and the herbs suggested are great all purpose herbs anyone should have available.

Worth the read!

Herbs For Energy (Kindle Edition)
By Lena E. Gabler

As one who is very interested in keeping healthy and staying at optimum health, the title alone compelled me to to have a look. I love the way that Lena informs on how the book came about. She quotes that she was "being tired of being tired ........." and and I think all of us, including myself can relate to this.

She then decided to make some changes to her lifestyle and the best thing was that they didn't have to be major, in order to feel so much better. This is important point that should be taken from the book.

The book is presented in a practical and logical manner. The ideas and information can be implemented into your daily lifestyle to obtain the important benefits such as more energy that come from better health.

There's great information on the background to herbs plus a very comprehensive list of herbs with photographs. I learnt a lot of things about herbs, which were new to me. She then gives you the smart way on how to use herbs for better health. For those of us with green fingers and wishing to grow herbs in their garden, this is also covered in the book.

This is a great supplement for anyone interested in how herbs can provide much better health and the resulting benefits of more energy to help one deal better with daily living. There's even a link to a bonus report on 101 ways to Stay Fit and Healthy.

Healing Herbs & Spices : Health Benefits of Popular Herbs & Spices Plus Over 70 Recipes To Use Them In (Healing Foods Series) (Kindle Edition)
By Lee Anne Dobbins

I tend to use the same herbs and spices over and over in my cooking. And I'm also looking for ways to cook in a more healthy manner. So I wanted to get a book that would help me learn more about herbs and spices, their health benefits and how to use them to improve my cooking.

I bought Healing Herbs & Spices and got so much more than I bargained for. This is a great book! For every herb or spice the author gives you the history, where it's grown, the parts of the plant that you use, other names for the herb or spice, health benefits, how it's used in cooking and then some great recipes! The health benefits are really interesting.

Cinnamon is good for arthritis, celery seed is good for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, fenugreek can help women deal with menopause and can increase male potency. Fenugreek can also help Type II diabetics lower their blood sugar. Did you know onions are an herb? I certainly didn't. I thought it was a regular veggie.

Recipes are listed for each herb and spice. The benefit is that if you find a herb or spice that you like or want to try, the recipes are right there for you. Vanilla Bean cookies, Roasted Garlic Soup, Basil Chicken. Cinnamon Maple Squash, Pizzelle Cookies (which I haven't had since I was little), Sour Cream and Chive Garlic Mashed Potatoes are just a few of the recipes I plan to try.

Finally Lee Anne Dobbins sounds like she has a passion for gardening and cooking. She writes in a very conversational manner which I like. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone interested in the health benefits of herbs & spices and how to best cook with the herbs and spices you like.

Great book to read, especially as it gets close to cold and flu season. Anyone looking for natural ways to cure many common illnesses should definitely pick up this book and read it. By using the remedies provided in this book, you don't have to fool with going to the doctor for medicine and can avoid the possible negative side effects that come from many of the common prescription drugs out there. As mentioned in the description, many of the herbs needed for these remedies can be easily found in the supermarket, so it isn't hard to pick up the necessary ingredients and try out these remedies when you are sick. I would highly recommend this book.
