Review: Get Well Stay Well
Review: Get Well Stay Well |
| Posted: Cheryl Hines balances the softer and traditional ways of attending to your health, versus the more common Western view in our modern medicine of attacking the symptom and not its likely causes. She reminds us that the body is a complex organism that fights off illness and disease on a daily basis with much success, but when it is run down with poor foods, lack of sleep, an unhealthy lifestyle and stress that these negatives become too much for the body to handle on its own. In many ways her appreciation of folk remedies shows a similar attitude to the Chinese. (I understand this a little since I spent half my life in Hong Kong.) There the locals prefer the slower gentler ways of treating the body; however they also know when only the skills of a modern medical surgeon will do the trick. But they are not so quick to ask for the scalpel. A good read, even if you disagree with some of her ideas. |
